Strabismus

Strabismus is the misalignment of the eyes. The eyes may cross in (esotropia), drift outward (exotropia), or drift vertically (hypertropia). Strabismus may be caused by several different conditions and it is important to be seen by a pediatric ophthalmologist for further exam and testing. Strabismus can lead to amblyopia where one eye is unable to see well despite normal eye structures. This can even lead to permanent blindness if not treated at an early age in childhood.

Strabismus Surgery
Strabismus surgery is performed as an outpatient surgery in a hospital or surgery center. It is usually done with general anesthesia. Strabismus surgery is where the eye muscles are adjusted to improve the alignment of the eyes.
